Frequently Asked Questions( FAQ's) About PRP Therapy
How Do I know if PRP Therapy is right for me?
PRP Therapy is one of many therapies that could be right for you. The best way to determine if it is right for your particular case is to schedule an appointment to see a Serenity Healthcare provider. Yet, a couple reasons why it should at least be considered are that you have any of the conditions listed above and traditional medicine is not doing the job of helping you heal and treating the source the of the pain.
Shoud I try prp therapy before or after surgery?
PRP Therapy can be useful before and after surgery. If you are for sure having surgery or have had surgery, PRP Therapy can help you heal. If you have not had surgery and are considering alternatives, then PRP could be an excellent option for you. Surgery has helped a lot of people with orthopedic and other conditions. Yet, we tend to look at surgery as a last resort in many cases. Since the surgeon has to cut the outer layers of tissues in order to reach the layer where the injury has occurred, they are actually creating more injury. It makes sense to exhaust all other options before doing that.
How long does it take?
The initial consultation and examination to determine whether PRP will be used to help treat your condition is about 30 minutes to an hour. If we determine that the therapy is right for you, then the actual procedure takes 1-2 hours, usually starting on your second visit after the initial workup. Most people return to their jobs or usual activities right after the procedure, but nothing strenuous. A post treatment sheet with activities that you can and cannot do will be provided.
Is there any pain?
If we are treating a condition that is causing pain then one of the goals of the overall outcome is less pain. It is an injection so the procedure itself can be uncomfortable. After the treatment is administered some patients report mild or moderate discomfort for the first few hours. Some swelling and stiffness is a normal response and is a sign that the treatment is working. Do not take anti-inflammatory medications (including Ibuprofen) for the first 72 hours, but Tylenol can be used for any discomfort. Arnica can be used for bruising that may occur.
Will my insurance cover it?
It will highly depend on which insurance you have, but generally this therapy is not covered by insurance. That is one of the reasons it’s under-utilized in traditional medicine. We will provide complete pricing information with your initial consultation.
